The Survey on The Blue Ribbon Task Force's Proposals
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I get my church to answer this survey but there aren't many with computer access. Can I print them out and submit surveys by mail?
You can print out the questions, then print out answer sheets for each person. The answer sheets have information on how to get them to us for entry into the survey.
I want to take this to my District Convention; will it help me answer the survey there?
After completing the survey, you can print the "Summary" page to help you answer the survey at the District ocnventions. The online survey was generated from a copy from the Southern Illinois District convention (Feb 19-21). At that convention, in answer to a question regarding changes to the presentation from the North Dakota convention (Jan 18-21), a representative from the BRTFSSG stated that there would be no further changes to the presentation through the remaining conventions. Unfortunately this is not the case; we have obtained a copy of the survey from the Minnesota North Convention, and have outlined the differences in the survey. The presentation was also changed, but we haven't fully analysed the changes to it (other than rearrange and renumbering it per the survey question renumbering).
NOTE: If you will be attending one of the later conventions, please use the Contact Us link to find out how you can get a copy of the survey to us from that convention.
What will you do with the results of the survey?
It is our intention to forward our results to the Blue Ribbon
Task Force and share them with the synod. Similar efforts were
undertaken by the laity during the process by which our synod approved
our new hymnal, and we hope that the Task Force will view this effort
as similarly helpful.
How long will the survey be available online?
Related: Can I put it in the church newsletter and have time for members to access it?
We will leave the survey up at least through the District Convention cycle, through July of this year. Based on how many responses we are getting, we may leave it up through the end of the year.
Who is a member of the Synod?
According to the Handbook of Synod, members of Synod are congregations and ministers of religion (ordained & commissioned).
Who should take the Survey?
Anyone who is a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), i.e.,
all ordained or commissioned ministers, and all Lay members of LCMS
Congregations.
Are you an officially commissioned committee?
As you will note from the introduction page, we are not an officially
commissioned group in any way. We are a loosely associated group of
Laymen who have come together with a common goal to bring the BRTFSSG
survey to synod, and members of it’s congregations, to allow them the
opportunity to answer the BRTFSSG questions and let their voices be
heard in the restructuring process. We have no agenda beyond that
goal.
Is there a political bias to this survey?
Let us also share with you that we ourselves are not in agreement over these
proposals. Some of us like more of them than others. What we are agreed
upon is that it is best for all members of our congregations to know about
this and have their voices heard rather than to be surprised by major
reforms in their church body. We have attempted to be as neutral as possible
in the presentation of the survey. The survey questions and most of
the survey text comes directly from the BRTFSSG sources. The
additional commentary and explanation provided was provided from
various pastoral sources and was edited to make it as unbiased as we
could. We will not edit or skew the results in any way. Our
collected data will be presented exactly as it is received. You may
view the results of the survey at our website, upon completion of the
survey.
